A victim of DOGE and short sightedness. Less than 1% of Federal spending went to foreign aid. Yet… the United States of America was one of the leading funders and supporters of foreign aid. The gutting of USA foreign aid and assistance will harm developing countries and put people at risk. Unfortunately, we live in a political moment of selfishness where people don’t care about this. Instead we would rather destroy tons of food aid and assistance, rather than make it available to starving people.
I look forward to a day when we will be a bit more visionary and realize that if we are to be a world leader as a “super power” that such power comes with responsibility to help those most at need.
I will be forever thankful for the opportunities that I have been given to contribute through these programs. As well to the other volunteers that I have met. Godspeed and until we meet again.
